Testing heterogeneity in quantile regression: a multigroup approach

چکیده
Abstract The paper aims to introduce a multigroup approach assess group effects in quantile regression. procedure estimates the same regression model at different quantiles, and for groups of observations. Such are defined by levels one or more stratification variables. proposed exploits computational test effects. In particular, bootstrap parametric permutation compared through artificial data taking into account sample sizes, comparing their performance detecting low, medium, high differences among coefficients pertaining groups. An empirical analysis on MOOC students’ is used show proposal action. effect two main drivers impacting performance, learning engagement, explored conditional self-paced courses with instructor-paced courses, offered EdX platform.

Nonlinear Quantile Regression under Dependence and Heterogeneity
This paper derives the asymptotic normality of the nonlinear quantile regression estimator with dependent errors. The required assumptions are weak, and it is neither assumed that the error process is stationary nor that it is mixing. In fact, the notion of weak dependence introduced in this paper, can be considered as a quantile specific local variant of known concepts. The connection of the d...
متن کاملHeterogeneity in the Intergenerational Transmission of Alcohol Consumption A Quantile Regression Approach #186 RUHR
This paper addresses the question of whether the eff ect of parental drinking on children’s later consumption of alcohol – which is frequently found to be of positive sign – exhibits a certain pattern of heterogeneity. In particular, if this eff ect is more prominent in the upper tail than elsewhere in the distribution of children’s alcohol consumption, conventional regression analyses that foc...

متن کاملA Quantile Regression Approach to Firm Growth
This paper explores the firm growth rate distribution in a Gibrat's Law context. The aim is to provide an empirical exploration of the determinants of firm growth. The work is novel in two respects. First, rather than limiting the analysis to focus on the conditional mean growth level, we investigate the complete shape of the distribution. Second, we show that the differences in the firm growth...
متن کاملQuantile Regression for Analyzing Heterogeneity in Ultra-high Dimension.
Ultra-high dimensional data often display heterogeneity due to either heteroscedastic variance or other forms of non-location-scale covariate effects. To accommodate heterogeneity, we advocate a more general interpretation of sparsity which assumes that only a small number of covariates influence the conditional distribution of the response variable given all candidate covariates; however, the ...
